Located on Wrottesley Park Road near Wolverhampton, the scheme combines a sensitively designed farm shop redevelopment with new outdoor paddle courts, biodiversity improvements, and long-term landscape restoration within the Greenbelt.

A Landscape-Led Approach to Paddle Court Design

The site sits within the National Character Area 66: Mid Severn Sandstone Plateau: a landscape defined by gently undulating farmland, wooded stream valleys, sandstone geology, and historic agricultural character. Rather than introducing a generic sports facility, the proposal focused on creating a paddle court design that responds directly to the surrounding rural setting. Existing issues on site included deteriorating hardstanding, poor visual presentation, unmanaged operational areas, and declining landscape quality.

The design strategy aimed to:

• Restore visual integrity within the Greenbelt
• Improve biodiversity and ecological value

• Reinforce woodland structure and native planting

Designing Paddle Courts for Rural Integration

Unlike urban sports developments, designing paddle courts in a rural Greenbelt setting requires a careful balance between recreation and environmental sensitivity.

The proposed courts follow standard Lawn Tennis Association guidance, including:

• 20m x 10m enclosed court dimensions
