GRO-DESIGNS were appointed by the client in 2022 to design a luxury coastal residential development in Newquay. GRO has worked collaboratively to transform the holiday touring park into a luxury residential location, providing a high-quality package to our clients. We have offered a phased approach to master planning Fistral Retreat providing detailed hard works, strategic landscape framework and landscape infrastructure plans as well as lighting designs, fire regs and utilities plans for each phase of the development.
Project Overview
Fistral Retreat Residential Development is located on the A3075 west of the popular Cornish settlement, Newquay includes a robust landscape buffer to support biodiversity with native hedgerows and SuDS. Ecology has also played a key role, influencing lighting strategies, plant species selection and landscape enhancement opportunities throughout the development of Fistral Retreats scheme.
We aspire to be leaders in sustainable and ecology sensitive holiday/residential park design through our core values and practices. We encourage clients to use our turnkey network to address and implement solutions to help achieve targets around climate change and government initiatives on carbon neutrality which, leads to enhanced development value by delivering high-quality environments for a unique user experience.
Planting Scheme for Fistral Retreat Residential Development
Our plot boundary treatment draws inspiration from the vibrant coastal hues of Newquay, specifically Fistral Beach, after which the park is named. We’ve curated a blend of evergreen and deciduous plants, ensuring year-round visual interest with bursts of colour during summer and enduring charm through winter. Our carefully selected hedgerow species offer both privacy for residents and an eye-catching feature which softens the wider landscape and serves to assimilate the scheme into the wider landscape.
This coastal-inspired palette integrates with our SuDS planting scheme, fostering a harmonious ambiance across the site. Engineered for minimal upkeep and cost-effectiveness, we’ve opted for readily available specimens from national suppliers. Plus, for added convenience, we offer optional dog-proofing solutions with a simple post and wire fence.
Challenges
While this project initially seemed straightforward, adapting to numerous changes resulting from both client and contractor constraints did prove to be challenging at times, as the park’s ownership moved with a changing economy to identity the most viable density and mix of unit sizes. Navigating these adjustments ultimately added depth to the project’s development journey.
Conclusion: Fistral Retreat, Luxury Coastal Residential Development
As we reflect on the journey of this project, which commenced in 2022 and culminated in its phase 1 grand opening on Saturday, May 4, 2024, it is evident that the path to completion was marked by both challenges and triumphs.
